In the last week of January 1959, 10 students from Ural Polytechnique Institute in which 8 of them were boys and 2 girls decided to go hiking on Mount Otorten in Northern Ural Mountains. But one the student falls ill and the rest of the 9 students goes hiking.

In those 9 groups, 3 of them were engineers and the rest of them were students. They were experienced hikers who had already gone hiking on several mountains.

While hiking they set a camp on a place named Kholat Syakhl and decided to stay here and continue hiking the next day.

The word Kholat Syakhl literally means "Dead Mountain" and this name was given by the people of Mansi Tribes, who lives in the Ural Mountains.

After setting camp and staying there, those 9 hikers never returned and when there was no information about those 9 students. The student who couldn't go hiking due to illness reported it to the search and rescue team, and when the rescue team reached that place where those hikers set their camp, they were shocked to see that the condition of the tents set by those hikers was very bad.

The rescue team also saw their footprints on the snow, going away from the tent, and when the rescue team followed those footprints they found dead bodies of 5 hikers, around 1.5 km away from their campsite.

Even at the -25 degree celsius temperature of that place, those dead bodies had only light clothes like pants and a shirt.

After 2 months of searching the rescue team found the corpses of the remaining 4 hikers, 75 meters away from the place where they first found the corpse of 5 hikers. The corpses of these 4 hikers were found under 4 meters of snow.

After investigation, the rescue team found that the tents of those hikers were cut from inside and these 9 hikers cut their tents from inside.

It seemed like those hikers saw something terrible and ran away from their campsite and they were so terrified that they even forgot to wear cold clothes.

In the post mortem report, it was found that 6 hikers died due to Hypothermia and the rest of the 3 hikers died due to severe injuries.

The injuries of the 3 hikers were also mysterious. one victim's skull was broken and the other victim's ribcage was badly broken and the third victim's eyes and tongue were missing and the ribs were also broken. But even after having severe internal injuries, the outer body of these victim's didn't have any injuries, not even a scratch on their skin.

The doctor who did their postmortem said that the injuries of those three hikers were like the same injuries that occur when a man is getting hit by a fast car and he also said that it was almost impossible to have these type of severe internal injuries without having any injuries on the outer body.

But the most mysterious factor about this case was that the bodies of all these hikers were radioactive.

The Soviet government closed this case in 1961 saying that those 9 hikers died due to natural disaster.

Theories Regarding the Dyatlov Pass Incident

Though there are many theories that try to explain the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

One theory suggests that those hikers were chased and killed by a mysterious creature called Yeti. But if this theory was right and any creature like Yeti killed those hikers then the footprints of that creature must appear on the snow and this theory also fails to explain how those hikers were severely injured without even a scratch on their skin and the radioactive state of their corpses

Another theory suggests that the Mansi people killed these hikers. But if this theory was true then their footprints should also appear in the snow and again this theory fails to explain the injuries and the radioactivity.

Many people also believe that aliens are behind the death of these 9 hikers. whatever the reason is, the Dyatlov Pass Incident still remains a mystery.
