North Yungas Road a.k.a the Death Road is a 43-mile long road located in Bolivia. This narrow unpaved 3-meter wide mountain track connects  Coroico and La Paz.

This road was constructed by the Paraguayan prisoners during the Chaco war, in the 1930s.

This road is situated at a peak height of more than 15,000 feet. As the road is situated so high and the with a small width, many accidents took place here.

The annual number of fatalities on this road is estimated to be around 200-300. Because of the low width, many vehicles fall on the cliffs and the visibility issue due to such high altitude makes more it difficult for drivers to drive through this road. This visibility issue also increases the chances of accidents.

Apart from the dangers of a narrow unpaved road at such a high altitude and the visibility issues, there are also risks of mudslides and tumbling rocks etc...

There are special rules for the vehicles going through this road, made in an effort to make travel through this road more secure.

Currently, the Bolivian Government is attempting to improve the safety of this road. Hope the travels through this road will be safe, easy and secure one day.
