The Green Children of Woolpit, England | Agnes Barre Woolpit

In 12th century England, villagers of the Woolpit village encountered green coloured children.

Legend of Green Children of Woolpit

Back in the 12th century, during the reign of King Stephen, the farmers working in the fields of Woolpit, England hears the cries of two children and after searching nearby they found those children who had green coloured skin and they were talking to each other in an unknown language.

Villagers were shocked to see them and they were soon brought to the village where they were kept in the home of a local knight named Sir Richard de Calne.

Those children were offered food, but they refused to eat them. But after some time those children started eating raw beans from the nearby fields. They didn't like to eat anything except raw beans. But as time pass by they started eating normal food and their skin colour also became normal.

But unfortunately, the boy fell ill and died. But the girl survived and just a few months she also learned the English language.

She told that she & brother reached here when they were tending their father's flock in the forest. As they were tending the flock they saw a cave and after they wandered in the cave for some time they got lost and there were many ways in that cave and they came to Woolpit through one of those ways.

She also claimed that she is from a place called St. Martin's Land and it's a place without sunrise and sunset.

There is only a faint light in the skies of St. Martin's Land.

She was named Agnes Barre after her baptism.

As time passed by she became more normal and her behaviour also changed just like an English lady at that time and when she grew up she married an ambassador of King Henry II of England.

Even though we cannot 100% how true this legend is but it's a fact that many historians have mentioned the legend of the green children of Woolpit. What do you think is this true or false comment down your opinion.
