Monte Cristo Homestead is a Victorian manor located in Junee, Australia. This 135-year-old double-story historic homestead is considered to be the most haunted place in Australia Because of the paranormal incidents took place there and many people have claimed to have paranormal experience in this Homestead

A Brief History of the Monte Cristo Homestead

Monte Cristo Homestead is a two-story Victorian manor built by a farm owner named Christopher William Crawley in 1884 in the town of Junee in New South Wales, Australia.

Christopher William Crawley wasn't a wealthy person until the Robertson Land Act of 1861 was passed and at that time he acquired 520 acres of land in the town of Junee in 1876 under the provisions of the Robertson Act. Today the most of the land you see in the town of Junee was once owned by Christopher William Crawley. Even though he acquired many lands but his fortunes changed when Great Southern Railway Line was opened in 1878 and he got the license to build a hotel opposite the station. Crawley's wealth increased dramatically in the 1880s and at that time he built Monte Cristo Homestead and also donated a parcel of land to the church.

Due to the tragic events took place here and people's claim of having scary experiences here. Monte Cristo Homestead is regarded as the most haunted place in Australia.

The Ghost of Mrs. Crawley

Many people who visited the Monte Cristo Homestead claimed to have encountered the ghost of Elizabeth Crawley (wife of Christopher William Crawley). Christopher died on 14th December 1910 at the age of 69. and the Monte Cristo Homestead was passed to his wife. Elizabeth was unable to get over her husband's death and she spent her rest of 23 years as a recluse she immersed herself in the bible and converted the upstairs box room to a chapel. Elizabeth Crawley died from an appendix in 1933. Now her ghost is said to roam around this homestead and many people had reported the sighting of her ghost.

Not only Elizabeth Crawley but some people had also claimed to see the ghost of Christopher William Crawley on the premises of the homestead.

Some Other Tragic Events Took Place Here

Many other tragic incidents that took place here are considered as the reason for this being haunted. Once a baby girl was thrown down the stairs by a nanny. The nanny claimed that it was pushed from her hands
and a maid who was pregnant to Mr. Crawley once plummeted from the balcony of the homestead and died and after this many people claimed to see the ghost of the maid on the balcony.



Tragic incidents didn't stop here. A stable boy was burned to death by his master in his straw bed and it is said that his spirit haunts the stable of the homestead. Once a caretaker of this homestead shot dead here and his spirit is also said to wander here and it is also said that once a caretaker of the homestead tied his mentally unstable son in an outhouse of this homestead for more than 40 years. Eventually, his son died there and it is said that screams can be heard from that outhouse during night time.

Today Monte Cristo Homestead is protected as a historic place and people are allowed to visit this homestead and the public can even stay here for a night. The entrance fees for an adult to visit here during the daytime is $15.
