The Legend of the Demon El Coco | Spanish Folklore | El Cucuy

El Coco (Also known as El Cucuy and El Cuca) is an urban legend famous mainly in SpainPortugalMexico, and some Latin American Countries. According to this legend if children misbehave their parents a monster will be summoned into their home at night. This monster hides either in the closet or under the cot waiting for children to fall asleep. 

Another version of this legend suggests that El Coco becomes a shadow and stand on a dark corner in the room.

After the children are asleep El Coco takes them to his cave where he either eats them or drinks their blood.

It is also believed that this demon has the ability to change his shape.

As per the legend, El Coco has a hairy body with long hands and a scary face. El Coco hand has long and sharp claws and his eyes are also considered to be scary. El Coco also has sharp teeth.

Origin of the El Cucuy

It is said that once a man who got tuberculosis visited a magician in the hope to find a cure. The magician told him to kill a child as a sacrifice and drink his blood.

But he died before he could do so and from then onwards it is believed that this demon comes and kills children who misbehave their children. 

El Coco is one of the most famous urban legends in the world.
