A Brief History of Kuldhara Village

The Kuldhara Village is considered to be established in the 13th century & and it was inhabited by Kuldhars, which was a subgroup of the Brahmin Caste the village was also named after the name of this subgroup.
The main occupation and means of livelihood of the residents of this village were agriculture, trade, and banking and they cultivated crops like wheat, jowar, etc... using the water from several wells and the nearby Kakni River
Though there is no clear data available about the population of this village in different periods, it is estimated that nearly 1500 people used to live here between the 17th and 18th Century, and as per a report by the British East India Company Officer and Oriental Scholar, Lieutenant - Colonel Sir James Tod the population of this village was about 800 but as stated earlier the population of this village saw a sharp decline in the 19th Century and as of the year 1890, the population of Kuldhara Village was only around 37 people.

Though the exact reason for the decline in the population of this village is unknown, it is considered that scarcity of water was the main reason that forced people to migrate, other than that, Kuldhara Village being in an earthquake-prone area is also considered as a factor that forced people to flee this village
Locals of this area believe that the atrocities and the excessive taxation by a tyrant minister (Diwan) of the Jaisalmer named Zalim Singh forced the people to abandon this village.
Some legends also claim that this village was abandoned overnight

Besides being one of the oldest villages in India, the Kuldhara Village is considered to be one of the most haunted places in India according to the legends, this village was abandoned overnight as the tyrant minister of the Jaisalmer state had his eyes on a beautiful girl of this village, the girl that the minister Zalim Singh had an eye on was the daughter of the village head, and both her father and the villagers didn't want that girl to be in the clutches of Salim Singh so they all abandoned the village overnight and cursed the village, now it is said that due to their curse no one managed to live their afterward, now it is said that the Kuldhara Village is haunted and paranormal activities have been reported from there
Present Status of Kuldhara Village
As of now, the Kuldhara Village is now a famous tourist destination in Rajasthan where many tourists pay a visit annually
