Story or Myth of the West Bengal's Supposedly Haunted Begunkodar Station | Haunted Railway Station | Wendighost






     Begunkodar Railway Station is a train station situated in the rural town of Begunkodar in Purulia District in the Indian state of West Bengal, It is considered to be India's most haunted railway station and was defunct for nearly 4 decades, even local authorities believe this railway station to be haunted and no railway workers were willing to work here for a long time.


A Brief History of Begunkodar Railway Station


As mentioned earlier, Begun Kodar Railway Station is situated in Begunkodar which is a rural town area in West Bengal before the construction of this railway station people from this area found it difficult to travel to distant places as they only had access to the railway stations in the city which was far from this area.

Considering this the want for a railway station arose back in the 1950s and the authorities decided to build a railway station for the convenience of the locals, the land for this station is said to have been allotted by the queen of the local Santhal tribe Lanchan Kumari and the station as a result of the joint efforts of Lanchan Kumari and Indian Railways the Begunkodar Railway Station was finally established in the year 1960.

Paranormal Incidents and Hauntings


In the year 1967, the station master claimed to see a ghostly figure of a lady who was chasing the train at unbelievable speed. There were already rumors about the death of a lady in that station, The station master shared his paranormal incident with locals, but people didn't believe him initially until days later when he along with his family were found dead in railway quarters.

This incident shook the people and locals started fearing the station, and it was during this time that numerous other paranormal incidents and ghost sightings were reported by people which doubled the people's fear towards this station.

When the employees of this station also started reporting paranormal incidents and ghost sightings, people stopped using this station, and many employees also refused to work there because of fear.

Following all this, the Government was forced to shut down this station, and the station remained closed for 42 years. 

But demands were put by many since the 90s to reopen the station, and as a result of Mamtha Banerjee's efforts while she was serving as the Railway Minister the Begunkodar Railway Station was reopened in August 2009.

Current Status of the Begunkodar 

Even though the station was reopened in 2009, the fear of this station and the ghost stories surrounding this area have not gotten out of people's minds yet, even though people use this station during the daytime, it's still left deserted as the sun sets.
